Finding Forrester Review

Finding Forrester Review

The movie Finding Forrester, starring Sean Connery (Forrester) and Rob Brown (Jamal) is actually very good and I enjoyed it. The main topic of this film is writing.  It was produced in 2000 by production company Columbia Productions and directed by Gus Van Sant. Other important actors in this film are F. Murray Abraham (Crawford) and Anna Paquin (Claire).

This film is about a teenage boy, Jamal, who enjoys writing and playing basketball.  During school tests and exams he really shines in writing and is asked to go to a private school even though his class work isn’t the same case.  Over the course of the film Jamal meets William Forrester, a famous writer, who helps him improve his writing. Jamal’s teacher Crawford gives him many problems which Jamal must overcome with the help of his newfound friend Forrester.

Two very good qualities of this film are the acting and the music/soundtrack.  The acting was very good because the characters were very realistic in which they showed many different emotions toward each other.  The actors did well playing their parts and their differences made the story more intriguing and interesting.  The music/soundtrack was a good quality because it featured many different types and styles of music.  This gave the movie diversity between the different scenes and settings.

I believe the message or theme of this film is that even without blood relation, friends can be the best family of all. The movie shows this when Forrester befriends Jamal and Forrester, with no family of his own, begins to think of Jamal as family.  They start out by not liking each other, but this slowly evolves into a great friendship.

I find that the film Finding Forrester compares to the film The Other Guys.  The films compare because they both have a similar story which is two completely different people end up becoming friends because of an incident.  In the case of The Other Guys, the two men are partnered together to complete a case and start out hating each other.  As they go through more and more things together they form a great friendship.
